The U.S. under-17 national team moved into the semifinals in the Dallas Cup's Super Group with a 1-0 win over Perez Zeledon of Costa Rica Wednesday night.

Los Angeles Galaxy rookie Guillermo Gonzalez's third penalty kick in three games was the difference. The goal came in the 83rd minute when Freddy Adu was taken down from behind in the box after collecting a ball from Eddie Gaven. U.S. keeper Phil Marfuggi stopped a Perez Zeledon penalty in the 45th minute.

John Ellinger's U-17s, who won Bracket A by edging Guadalajara of Mexico on goal difference, face Newcastle United in the semifinals on Friday at Lake Highlands Stadium. In the other semifinal, Guadalajara, winner of the wild card spot, will face Tigres of Mexico.

The U.S. under-16 national team beat Yahara United Premier of Wisconsin, 4-1, but had to settle for second place, behind the Dallas Texans, on goal difference, in its bracket in the Under-17 Group. With eight brackets, only the group winners advanced.

With the exception of the Super Group and the U-12 Group, American teams have dominated the Dallas Cup.

In the U-14 group, the Kansas City Legends beat Manchester United, 2-0, and moved into the quarterfinals. The other eight foreign teams in the U-14 group were also eliminated.
