Stanford is back on top of Soccer America's College Women's Top 25 after opening its Pacific-10 Conference slate with road victories over USC and UCLA.

The Cardinal, which occupied the No. 1 spot two weeks ago, before a narrow loss to North Carolina, moves up from No. 2 after the Tar Heels were upset by North Carolina State. That result drops UNC to No. 3 and moves the Wolfpack, unranked (and largely unfancied) all season, into the Top 25, at No. 23.

Portland is ranked second after routing Gonzaga in its West Coast Conference opener.

Texas remains fourth, with Santa Clara climbing from eighth to fifth, with UCLA, California, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Penn State rounding out the Top 10.

Penn State moves back into the Top 10 with impressive wins over Maryland, Illinois and Iowa.

USC, which beat Cal after falling to Stanford, climbs from 15th to 12th, and Villanova goes from 21st to 14th following shutout wins in Miami over Florida International and Miami.

Connecticut falls out of the Top 10 after losing at Notre Dame, and Pepperdine drops from 12th to 18th after losing its first match of the season, in its WCC opener at crosstown rival Loyola Marymount.

Florida State, following a tie with Duke and loss to Wake Forest, and Michigan, after losing to Purdue, fall from the Top 25.

Also new to the rankings are unbeaten Charlotte, which is No. 21 after a 2-0 week — including a 4-1 romp over Marquette — in Conference USA play.
