For the third straight year, the Los Angeles Galaxy ousted San Jose in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup.

Los Angeles, the 2001 Open Cup champ, won on a 101th minute golden goal from Carlos Ruiz, who beat Jeff Agoos and sombreroed Jimmy Conrad before shooting past keeper Jon Conway from the edge of the penalty area.

In its semifinals on Sept. 3, the Galaxy will host the Dallas Burn, which edged Colorado, 1-0, on a golden goal by Irishman Ronnie OÆBrien.

OÆBrien beat an offside trap to a Paul Broome pass before poking the ball past Colorado keeper David Kramer.

The Columbus Crew beat the MetroStars, 2-1, on goals by Brian McBride and Kyle Martino to set up a semifinal date with the winner of Kansas City and the A-LeagueÆs Milwaukee Rampage, which meet Aug. 24 in Milwaukee.
