In a surprise move, Alan Hinton has quit as the coach of the Seattle Sounders, only months after leading them to their first A-League title.
Hinton said he wanted to concentrate on his work with a local youth team.
Hinton, who starred as a player in England and the NASL, had previous coaching experience in the NASL and MISL. He quickly built the Sounders in one of the A-League’s best clubs. Almost all their players are local products.
Despite their success on the field, attendance was disappointing in 1995, after the club got off to a solid start in 1994, its first year in the league.
No replacement for Hinton has been named.
