Egyptian champion Al-Ahly took a two-goal lead in the first leg of the African Champions Cup final Sunday against Cotonsport of Cameroon in front of 70,000 fans in Cairo. The second leg will be played November 16 in Cotonsport’s home city, Garoua.
Al-Ahly struck twice early on through a header from defender Wael Gomaa in the third minute, and another headed goal from Angolan striker Amado Flavio on the quarter-hour mark.
Cotonsport held out against the continued home onslaught until halftime, but came out more positive in the second half and created enough chances to suggest that the tie is far from over. Ahly squandered a number of good chances on the counter-attack.
