The prestigious Premier League opponents of our Major League Soccer superstars are traveling to the United States for the All-Star game in appropriate style — by economy class. Or, as Britain’s favorite tabloid phrases it: “West Ham stars are fuming at their tour from hell after a travel firm went bust.”
According to the (notoriously inaccurate) paper, “MLS told [West Ham] boss Alan Curbishley they would get business class flights, but when a travel firm went under, it all went wrong.” Now the players will fly economy class in two separate planes on scheduled flights from Heathrow to Chicago.
“After that nine-hour trip, plus the wait at Chicago’s O”Hare airport, they catch another plane for the three-hour flight to Columbus before facing Crew on Sunday,” the paper goes on, although it doesn’t say what kind of plane would take three hours to fly between the two cities. A Bristol Boxkite, perhaps? Better wrap up well in training gear, lads.
