The United States came through in what turned out to a must-win situation when it beat Barbados, 4-0. With the victory — on second-half goals by Clint Mathis, Earnie Stewart , Cobi Jones and Ante Razov — the USA finishes atop Group E and qualifies for the six-team final round of CONCACAF qualifying. The Americans join Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago in the final round, from which three teams will emerge to represent CONCACAF at the 2002 World Cup. The final participant in the group has yet to be decided, as Guatemala’s 2-1 victory today left it tied with Costa Rica as runners-up in Group E. Costa Rica and Guatemala will meet in a one-game playoff at a neutral site. TodayÆs Barbados-USA match will be rebroadcast on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. ET.
