According to an LA Times report, after more than a week of negotiations, an agreement “designed to benefit each side is close to being finalized” and would have David Beckham officially returning to the LA Galaxy in mid-July after the conclusion of AC Milan’s Serie A season.
Gaining an extension of the original loan through March 9, Beckham will reportedly stay with Milan through May 31, at which point he’ll return to the USA. However, due to international transfer restrictions, Beckham wouldn’t be able to actually play for the Galaxy until their July 18 match, meaning the 33-year-old midfielder would miss 17 of the team’s first 30 games for the 2009 season.
Beckham will supposedly be contracted with MLS through the rest of calendar 2009, but technically he could head back to Milan in November or depending on how far the Galaxy go in the postseason. Either way, he won’t be able to compete for Milan until January 2010, again due to transfer rules.
