The press, the public and several papers are clamoring for David Beckham’s England recall. “Bring Back Becks” is the chant, and Coach Steve McClaren may very well acquiesce, although the next seven days will be crucial in determining the former England captain’s chances. “I’m not going to lie. I love the fact I have got the backing of a lot of the public and some of the Press,” Beckham told the Sun. “It’s a great feeling.”
However, Becks has played just three games since his Real Madrid recall-though he was arguably the Merengues’ best player in each of those. Suspended last weekend, Beckham returns to the Bernabeu on Sunday against Getafe (TV: WorldSport HD, live, 1 pm ET) hungry for a victory that could see his team leap back into serious contention for the La Liga title. Getafe is no slouch, however; it will take a very organized defensive performance for Madrid to secure a victory.
Real on Wednesday faces a very tricky return leg at Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Bayern has an away goals advantage, given its 3-2 loss at the Bernabeu. Madrid has to score to breathe easier and it must also defend 100 percent better than it did during the home leg. And after Bayern, it just doesn’t stop: Real faces the even more daunting task of Barcelona at the Nou Camp. However, if Becks helps lead the Merengues to the kind of results it needs, his England recall is a veritable certainty.
