U.S. midfielder Jose Francisco Torres, who plays his club soccer with Mexican side Pachuca, has said it was a hard decision to choose the United States national team over Mexico. But he’s happy to have made it, even if that means lining up against Mexico in next month’s World Cup qualifier in Columbus.

“It will be a great honor playing in the United States against Mexico,” he said. “I will be so excited. I don’t know what to do but just go out and play and do what I have to do.

“I always wanted to play with the U.S., but when I was 15 doors opened for me in Mexico with Pachuca,” Torres said. “That’s where my career started. I never knew the U.S. was following me. And when I first got called to the Olympic Games, I was amazed. I was very happy.” The player said he didn’t think the U.S. would be interested in him after the Olympics, but “then they called me for two qualifiers. It was a hard decision for me and my family, but now I’m happy about it.”
