HereÆs how the 23 members of the U.S. roster — for SundayÆs World Cup qualifier against Jamaica — have performed for their clubs over the past two weeks. BY MIKE WOITALLA GOALKEEPERS Brad Friedel Blackburn Rovers (England PL) Friedel, whoÆs played every minute for Blackburn this season, had an outstanding game against Everton Sept. 22, saving a PK and a fierce shot from U.S. teammate Joe-Max Moore. The keeper wasn’t blamed for goals in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa. Kasey Keller Tottenham Hotspur (England PL) He has yet to see league action for Hotspur. Since joining the club last summer, Keller’s competitive play has been limited to one League Cup — 2-0 over Torquay Sept. 13 — and one reserve league game — a 2-1 win Sept. 24 over Leicester City’s reserves in which Keller played the first 45 minutes. He did not give up the goal. Zach Thornton Chicago (MLS) Solid during successful three-game quarterfinal series against Dallas — gave up just one goal., DEFENDERS Jeff Agoos San Jose (MLS) Flawless in Quakes’ central defense’s domination of Columbus in quarterfinal sweep. Carlos Bocanegra Chicago (MLS) Scored a nice header in Game 1 of quarterfinal series win over Dallas. Earned high ratings throughout series for stifling Burn attack. Steve Cherundulo Hannover 96 (Germany DII) Played Monday in 5-2 win over the LR Ahlen. Has started in all eight games this season for second-place Hannover and has received high praise from Kicker Magazine. Hannover has moved him from midfield to outside back, where he plays for the USA. Robin Fraser Colorado (MLS) The Colorado RapidsÆ season ended Sept. 8. Eddie Pope D.C. United (MLS) D.C. UnitedÆs season ended Sept. 8. Tony Sanneh FC Nuremberg (German DI) On fire after moving from right midfield to right back. Named Kicker Magazine Man of the Week after scoring gamewinner in 2-1 victory over Cologne Sept. 22. The publicationÆs grades for SannehÆs previous six games averaged a D. Played OK in last weekendÆs 0-0 tie with Hamburg. David Regis Metz (France DI) Entered Sept. 29 game vs. Nantes (0-0) as sub in 77th minute. Didn’t see action in 2-0 win over Lyon Sept. 22. Greg Vanney Los Angeles (MLS) Ejected from Game 2 against MetroStars for stupid fouls; suspended for Game 3. MIDFIELDERS Chris Armas Chicago (MLS) Three good outings in defensive midfield against Dallas in quarterfinal series. Armas scored in 2-0 Game 3 win and was highest rated Fire player, with a 6 and two 7s on scale of 10, in SA Report Cards. Cobi Jones Los Angeles (MLS) Hardly contributed in first two games of quarterfinal series against MetroStars. Much more active in Game 3, notching two assists. John OÆBrien Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands DI) The midfielder returned to action in September after a long injury layoff. He returned to league play with 11 minutes off the bench Sept. 23 in a 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam. On Sept. 27, he played a half in a 3-0 UEFA Cup win over Apollon Limassol. And last weekend he played the full 90 against Groningen (4-1). Manny Lagos San Jose (MLS) Scored once in each game of the QuakesÆ quarterfinal sweep of Columbus. Posed a constant attacking threat from the midfield. Preki Radosavljevic Miami (MLS) In quarterfinal series vs. Kansas City, he made a fine assist in Game 1 and scored in 2-1 Game 3 win. Claudio Reyna Glasgow Rangers (Scotland PL) On Sept. 30, he made first appearance after being sidelined for a month with a groin injury. Reyna played 67 minutes in the 2-0 loss to Celtic. Earnie Stewart NAC (Netherlands DI) Scored his third goal of the season last weekend with a 17-yard shot in a 4-2 loss to De Graafschap. As usual, has been a regular 90-minute man for NAC. Richie Williams MetroStars Steady but uneventful defensive midfield performances over three-game series that MetrosÆ lost to Los Angeles. FORWARDS Landon Donovan San Jose (MLS) Excellent playoff debut for youngster. Scored three goals, one assist in San JoseÆs quarterfinal sweep of Columbus. Jovan Kirovski Crystal Palace (England DI*) Played 69 minutes last weekend in 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, 90 minutes in a midweek 3-1 win over Sheffield United and 80 minutes in 1-0 win over Barnsley the week before. HasnÆt scored a league goal since April 2000.
