Roy Wegerle scored in the 80th minute to put the U.S. ahead 2-0. Claudio Reyna sent a perfect long ball to Wegerle in the box, and the D.C. United forward slotted a low shot past the Canadian keeper Dolan from about 15 yards out. Should the result stand, the U.S. will clinch a berth for France ’98, as Jamaica and El Salvador have drawn 2-2.
