China arrives Wednesday in San Francisco from Beijing for its match against the United States Saturday, Jan. 27, in Oakland. The pressure will be on the Chinese and their coach, Bora Milutinovic, to get a decent result after their embarrassing 4-0 loss to Iran to finish last at the Civilization Cup in Tehran. The Chinese had earlier lost to Egypt on penalty kicks. The losses follow a 6-3 loss to Lazio in a friendly in Rome. Bora came under attack from Chinese officials for spending Christmas with his family while his players were training in Yunnan province. Milutinovic has not had an easy time in China, though his cause was helped by the Chinese team’s strong showing at last fall’s Asian Cup, where China fell to eventual champion Japan in the semifinals.
