Midfielder Clint Dempsey, the only American to score at last summer's World Cup and a member of the 2005 MLS runner-up New England Revolution, has won the 2006 Honda Player of the Year award, which is voted on by American media.

Dempsey received 237 points and was followed by Kasey Keller (184 points), Brian McBride (127).

The 23-year-old was presented the key to a new Honda Ridgeline truck.

In his acceptance speech Dempsey said he would give the truck to his father because he had to sell his boat to afford Clint's youth soccer expenses.

Dempsey scored four goals in nine games for the USA, including its goal in a 2-1 loss to Ghana at the 2006 World Cup. The USA's only other goal at the World Cup was an own goal in the 1-1 tie with Italy.
