William and Mary menÆs coach Al Albert has stepped down from coaching after 33 years with the Tribe and will immediately assume a position with the Tribe Club, the fundraising arm of the athletic department.

Former Tribe standout and long-time assistant coach Chris Norris will replace Albert.

'It is tough to walk away from a job that I have loved for so long, but I am thrilled and energized by the opportunity to continue as part of the William and Mary family,'' said Albert. ''I hope as a member of the Tribe Club staff I can continue to help not only our menÆs soccer team, but every other team in the department as well.''

Albert, who played two years of soccer for W&M before he graduated in 1969, compiled a career record of 401-187-64 and has the eighth-most career coaching wins in NCAA Division I history. W&M's current streak of 29 consecutive winning seasons, which began in 1975, is tied for the fourth-longest active streak in Division I.

Albert led the Tribe to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances. Among the players he coached are Adin Brown, the New England Revolution goalie, Wade Barrett, who plays for Aarhus in the Danish Super League and veteran MLS defender Steve Jolley.
