Baylor University announced March 15 that Nick Cowell has been named head soccer coach of the Baylor Bears. Cowell replaces Randy Waldrum, who led the Bears to the NCAA tournament this past season before departing to coach at Notre Dame. Cowell joins the Baylor program after an eight year stint as head coach at Trinity University in San Antonio. During that time, Cowell led his team to seven straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference titles, including 49-straight conference game victories and six trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Prior to his work at Trinity, Cowell was at The College of Wooster where he had a 22-11-4 record in two seasons. He led the Lady Scots to the North Coast Athletic Conference title in 1990. “We are committed to excellence in all sports at Baylor,” said Baylor athletic director Tom Stanton. “In hiring Nick Cowell we have chosen a coach who is more than able to continue the level of excellence that our soccer program has achieved. Coach Cowell comes to Baylor highly recommended on a national and collegiate level. His achievements in women’s soccer are well noted, and he is a welcome addition to our already established young program.”
