UIC edged Wisconsin-Milwaukee by two points to be selected to finish at the top of the Horizon League (old MCC) with 43 total points. The Flames won the tournament championship last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Wright State was picked to place third (31 points), followed by Loyola (Ill.) in fourth (30 points), Green Bay in fifth (26 points) and Butler in sixth (24 points). Detroit was slated to finish seventh (20 points) and Cleveland State last (9 points). Flames received four first-place nods to repeat as regular-season champs. They shared the conference regular-season title with Loyola as both compiled a 5-1-1 record, but UIC swept through the conference tournament and defeated UW-Green Bay, 3-1, in the title game to capture their second straight post-season championship. The Flames kick off the 2001 campaign over the Labor Day Weekend at the UCSB Kappa Klassic in Santa Barbara, Calif. Senior Kevin Brady will be looking to lead the UIC soccer team to its third straight conference regular-season title this fall.
