It was a week of holding rank in men's college soccer.

Just three Top 25 teams lost to opponents ranked below them entering last week. Boston College, North Carolina and Hofstra lost to unranked Notre Dame, Virginia Commonwealth and Towson, respectively. The only other losses by Top 25 teams came against the upper echelon teams.

Second-ranked Wake Forest got past No. 9 South Carolina on senior Adam Hakes' 86th-minute tally after the Demon Deacons outshot the Gamecocks, 22-7. Wake Forest has shutout five straight opponents for a span of 555 minutes.

Connecticut, meanwhile, knocked off No. 10 Maryland, 2-0, at Morrone Stadium. Damani Ralph (30th minute) and Leandro de Oliveira (49th minute) scored for the Huskies. Both coaches dubbed their opponent the best team they have faced this season.

Other key results for top 10 teams included No. 5 Stanford's overtime win against upstart Oregon State on Darren Fernandez's goal and No. 9 Loyola Marymount's 3-2 victory over No. 13 San Diego on junior Pat Parker's overtime marker.

Southern Methodist and Bradley scored 18 seconds apart in a crucial Missouri Valley Conference clash and remained knotted 1-1 at the final whistle. After Preston Good put Bradley on top in the 54rd minute, SMU defender Ugo Ihemelu got free on the kickoff and found forward Ryan Lathum for the equalizer. The result halted several streaks — Bradley's school-record eight-game winning streak and SMU's 14-game MVC regular season winning streak. Bradley is 5-0-4 in its past nine overtime games.
