Beginning in 1999, the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s Soccer Championships will take on a new identity. The women’s championship will be known as the Women’s College Cup, while the mens’ championship will be called the Men’s College Cup. The new name was selected from over 1,000 entries in the NCAA/Nabisco Name the Game Contest, which challenged participants to suggest a name for the semifinals and final of the Division I men’s and women’s tournaments. The winning entry was submitted by Joe Fast, an 11-year-old soccer fan from Eagan, Minn., who will be present when the new men’s logo is unveiled Dec. 10 in Richmond, Va. The women’s logo was unveiled Dec. 3 in Greensboro, N.C. The 1999 Women’s College Cup will be held at San Jose’s Spartan Stadium Dec. 3 and 5, while the 1999 Men’s College Cup will take place at Charlotte, N.C.’s Ericsson Stadium Dec. 9 and 11.
