Vanderbilt women’s soccer head coach Ken McDonald, who led the Commodores to two Southeastern Conference championships, announced his resignation March 16. He will stay with the team through the end of this academic year. McDonald, who had been the head coach at Vanderbilt since 1989, leaves the Commodores with a 126-67-3 overall record and nine consecutive winning seasons. His teams had made five straight NCAA tournament appearances, reaching the “Sweet 16” three times. “I have many fond memories from 10 years of building this program to its current level. However, we made a family decision for our own personal reasons to resign from this coaching job that I have enjoyed so much,” said McDonald. “Basically, I just thought I needed a change…. I wish the best of luck to the program and the players who wear the black and gold.” “We are surprised and disappointed in Ken’s decision to resign, but circumstances i n people’s lives can change and we respect his decision,” said Director of Athletics Todd Turner. “Our goal now will be to build on the fine legacy he created.”
