COLLEGE: Virginia's Eskandarian is Soccer America's Men's Player of Year

Virginia junior forward Alecko Eskandarian has been selected Soccer America's 2002 College Men's Player of the Year.

The strength of the Virginia Cavaliers' 20 opponents is what makes Eskandarian's 25 goals such an astounding figure. In a year rife with shutouts, Eskandarian personally ensured that Virginia got on the board on all but two of its games.

Eskandarian, a product of Montvale, N.J., has signed a Project-40 contract and is expected to be picked high in the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 17.

Soccer America's Women's and Men's Freshman All-America Team and Freshman of the Year will be announced on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23.
