Bob Warming has been named head coach of the Saint Louis Billikens, athletic director Doug Woolard announced Jan. 8.
Warming has coached collegiately for over twenty years. He began at Transylvania University in Kentucky in 1976, before moving on to Berry College in Georgia, where he earned four NAIA District Coach of the Year awards. His first Division I position was at UNC Charlotte, where he guided the 49ers to a 68-51-17 record from 1982 through 1988.
In 1990, Warming took on the challenge of creating a soccer program from scratch at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. The result was a superb five-year run that included three straight Missouri Valley Conference titles and a national No. 1 seeding prior to the 1994 NCAA Tournament.
Warming left Creighton in 1995 to become the athletic director at Furman University, but missed coaching and returned to the bench to lead Old Dominion in the 1996 season.
“As a successful head coach at Creighton and UNC Charlotte, Bob has… experience in every category on our profile sheet for a prospective candidate,” said Woolard. “He will provide the partnership that we desire with our student-athletes to excel academically and competitively.”
Warming replaces Joe Clarke, who resigned in November after the Billikens struggled to a 5-10-3 record.
“I’m honored to take a leadership role in one of the most historic and successful collegiate soccer programs in the country,” said Warming. “I’m committed to raising the national image of Billiken soccer.”
