University of Arkansas women's soccer coach Alan Kirkup was informed Wednesday that his contract will not be renewed, and the school instigated a nationwide search for a replacement.

Kirkup was 34-59-4 in five seasons with the Lady Razorbacks, missing the Southeastern Conference tournament the past three years. Arkansas was more competitive this season, but a 7-10-2 record wasn't enough to satisfy athletic department administrators.

''As I look at our performance on the field over the last few seasons, I feel that it is time for us to make a change …,'' Bev Lewis, Arkansas' director of women's athletics, said in a statement. ''It is important for the University and for the people of the state of Arkansas we represent to be competitive at the highest level.''

Kirkup came to Arkansas following stints as women's coach at Maryland and SMU. He carries a career mark of 224-137-19 over 18 seasons.
