Florida State won't be returning to the Women's College Cup if it continues to misfire.

The No. 3 Seminoles have scored only five goals in their last five games, and they have scored as many as three goals only once, back on Sept. 3 against Loyola (Md.).

FSU's problems in front of the net continued Wednesday night when the Noles peppered Stetson keeper April Eilering with 40 shots, one short of the school record, but only managed to eke out a 2-1 victory.

''If I knew what wasn't working, I would solve it,'' said Dutch international Kirsten van de Ven. ''We don't know why we are struggling. We had 40 shots today. We created chances. It's just the final pass isn't there or the last touch isn't on. We will keep working.''

U.S. U-20 Sarah Wagenfuhr was equally perplexed.

''I mean 40 shots and only two goals?'' she said. ''It needs to be better than that.''

At least, FSU showed it could respond quickly. The Seminoles needed only 15 seconds to equalize after Stetson stunned them on a Brittany Jones free kick goal struck from nearly 50 yards out in the 13th minute. Off the restart, the Seminoles charged downfield, where Van de Ven collected her own missed shot and fed Mami Yamaguchi for the tying goal.

FSU (10-1-2) needed until the 75th minute to go ahead on Australian Sel Kuralay's bending shot from 20 yards.

Despite the Seminoles' offensive problems — they are only averaging 1.4 goals per game and 6.2 shots on goal per game — they are still doing enough to win. Wednesday's victory extends their unbeaten streak to six games.

AIR FORCE 0 #16 UTAH 2. Adele Letro scored her third goal in as many games in the 21st minute to give the Utes the lead. Jen Christoffers put the game away on a shot from 35 yards in the 57th minute. The win was the Utes' ninth in nine meetings with Air Force.

DARTMOUTH 1 #17 BOSTON UNIV. 0. Becky Poskin's hard shot from inside the box decided the game in the 58th minute. The win was the seventh in a row for Ivy League leader Dartmouth (8-3-1). For BU (11-3-2), the loss was its first in a month.
