North Carolina 0 Santa Clara 1 (OT)

Forward Megan Kakadelas scored off an assist by forward Tina Estrada 31 seconds into the first overtime period to 16th seed Santa Clara to a 1-0 victory over No. 1 North Carolina before 2,129 fans at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels suffered their first loss in 49 games (47-0-2 record). Their last loss came on Dec. 6, 2002, when they lost in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament to Santa Clara. The loss snapped UNC's of advancing to the final four every time since the NCAA added women's soccer in 1982.

Despite a 19-4 edge in shots in regulation, including a 12-1 edge in the first half, the Tar Heels were unable to get a goal past Santa Clara goalkeeper Julie Ryder, who made nine saves.

The Broncos took advantage of a turnover by the Tar Heel defense in the opening minute of the first overtime period. Estrada sent a through ball to Kakadelas, who finished to the right of Tar Heel goalkeeper Aly Winget at 90:31. It was Kakadelas' seventh goal of the season.

Thorlakson's goal on a penalty kick gives her 21 goals and 21 assists for the season, making her just the sixth Division I women's soccer player ever to reach that distinction. She has registered a point in eight straight games and has scored or assisted on 19 of Notre Dame's last 23 goals.

Portland 2 Texas 0

The Pilots cruised with a 2-0 win Friday night in front of 3,090 fans at Merlo Field. Defenders Kristen Moore and Emily Michaelson tallied the Pilot goals, both coming off corner kicks from junior All-American Lindsey Huie.

The Pilots controlled the pace of play throughout and held a 20-6 shot advantage for the match, allowing just three shots on goal. Huie was a force in the midfield and on set pieces, leading to both Portland scores.

With the win, Portland records its third 20-win season in history. The 1995 Pilot squad won 20 games en route to the national championship game, while the 2001 Pilots finished with a 20-4-0 mark, falling in the College Cup semifinals.

The win advanced Princeton to the quarterfinal round for the second time in school history and the first since the 1982 Tigers made it in what was then a 12-team tournament.

Washington 1 Maryland 0

Pac-10 Player of the Year Tina Frimpong scored the lone goal in the 19th minute for the 15th-seeded Huskies, who advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in their 14-year history.

Freshman Colby Branham created the situation with a 20-yard blast that deflected off goalkeeper Nikki Resni to Frimpong, who collected the rebound and deposited it into the net from five yards out for her 15th goal of the season and school record eighth game-winning goal.

Husky goalkeeper Kelsey Rasmussen notched her school-record 10th shutout of the season. She was called upon to make just one save.

The game, which drew 1,275 fans in Seattle, was a makeup game of sorts for Washington and Maryland, who were scheduled to meet Sept. 17 in College Park, Md. That regular-season game was canceled due to thunderstorms and a tornado warning.

UCLA 2 Duke 0
