The NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee has selected Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio,as the site for the 2001 Men’s College Cup. Ohio State University and the Columbus Crew of MLS are co-hosts of the event, which will be held December 14 and December 16. The selection is subject to the approval of the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, which meets Sept. 12-14 in Atlanta, Georgia. “The committee is extremely enthusiastic about the opportunity to showcase the NCAA Men’s College Cup in a soccer-only facility and Columbus Crew Stadium is arguably the top soccer venue in the country,” said Donna DeMarco, chair of the committee and associate commissioner of the Big East Conference. “This event will benefit tremendously by capitalizing on Columbus’ established soccer community in addition to the committee’s continued efforts of growing interest nationally. Crew Stadium, which has a capacity of 22,555, has been the site of several U.S. national soccer team matches, including a men’s World Cup qualifying match against Costa Rica on Oct. 11. The 2000 Men’s College Cup will be held Dec. 8-10, at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. For ticket information, contact the Davidson College ticket office at (800) 768-2287.
