U.S. midfielder Bobby Convey is still in the plans of English Championship (second tier) side Reading FC, according to a club spokesman, despite two injury-affected years and a failure to make an impact when the club played two seasons in the Premier League.
“Bobby is now fit, available again and pushing for a recall to the first team,” said Reading spokesman Andy West. “He has been unfortunate over the last couple of years with injuries. He was a very important player for Reading when we won the Championship [in the 2005/06 season].”
West said that this season was a role reversal for Convey, who has played 97 times for Reading and scored seven goals. The last time Reading played in the Championship “he was in the starting position and [Stephen] Hunt was fighting for his place in the team, where now it is the other way around. He knows he has to work hard. He has shown that he can be a major force in the team and we are sure he will be important to our cause throughout the season.”
Reading is currently third in the Championship, seven points behind leader Wolves, and three behind second-place Birmingham City. The top two teams are automatically promoted to the EPL, while the teams placed third to sixth play off for the final promotion spot.
