Columbus Crew forward Brian McBride will miss the remainder of the MLS season due to a reformation of a blood clot in his upper right arm. Doctors at Riverside Methodist Hospital performed a vascular procedure to open up the vein on Wednesday. McBride is on blood thinner medication that will force him to miss the rest of the season. McBride left practice on Tuesday, August 14, and was admitted into the hospital, where a series of tests were run and the clot was discovered. The blood clot is a reformation of a clot he had removed in September of last year that was found while on loan with Preston North End of the English First Division. McBride’s loss will thin the already depleted U.S. attacking corps for the Honduras and Costa Rica qualifiers. “The most important thing right now is Brian’s well being,” said U.S. coach Bruce Arena. “Obviously, Brian has been a tremendous asset to the U.S. team and we wish him the best in his recovery. Injuries are part of the process. One of the strengths of our team throughout qualifying has been the tremendous depth that exists at every position on the field, and we look forward to taking advantage of that depth in our upcoming qualifiers against Honduras and Costa Rica.”
