The Columbus Crew’s Danny Szetela, who scored thrice for the USA at this year’s U-20 World Cup, has signed a two-year contract with Spanish First Division club Racing Santander. The 20-year-old New Jersey product had been linked to Italy’s AS Roma.
Szetela joined Columbus in 2004 at age 17 and has made 34 appearances for the Crew. He follows U-20 teammates Freddy Adu (Benfica) and Sal Zizzo (Hannover 96) to Europe.
Szetela is one of nine players signed by Santander since last season when it finished 10th in the 20-team La Liga.
