[MLS] D.C. United promoted 18-year-old goalkeeper Bill Hamid from its youth academy to its first team, making the Virginia native the club’s first player to come up through its youth system.
“We’re excited to sign our first young professional out of the D.C. United Academy team,” said D.C. United President and CEO Kevin Payne. “Bill has been in our system for several years, and has drawn a lot of attention nationally and internationally. We have high hopes for him to be a big part of D.C. United’s future.”
Hamid has played with the D.C. United Academy since January of 2007 and played for its U.S. Soccer Development Academy league team.
Hamid, who played high school soccer at Annandale (Va.) High School and DeMatha High School, also played club ball for the Annandale Boys & Girls Club, Premier AC and McLean. He has been in the U.S. U-18 and U-20 national team pool.
