[AMERICANS ABROAD] Freddy Adu, who has played only 100 minutes in nine French First Division appearances since joining Monaco last summer, started against Juventus and helped set up a goal.
Adu was part of a young Monaco lineup that faced the veteran-laden Juventus in Sicily for the Trofeo Cittá di Messina in front of 18,000 fans.
Monaco scored in 35th minute on a Jerko Leko penalty kick that was awarded after a Nicola Legrottaglie foul on Adu, who had danced past two other defenders.
Vincenzo Iaquinta equalized in stoppage time to make the final score, 1-1, and Monaco won the penalty-kick tiebreaker.
Adu had been subbed in the 68th minute.
