The U.S. U-23 national team opened its tour of England with a 1-0 win over the Bolton Wanderers reserves in Manchester on Aug. 1. Joey DiGiamarino of the Colorado Rapids scored in the 25th minute on an assist from Clemson’s Scott Bower to improve the undefeated U-23s to 4-0-3 in seven games in 1998. The team has been training in Manchester since July 28, and has games left against Liverpool reserves (Aug. 5), Manchester United reserves (Aug. 8) and Hyde United (Aug. 12). American Univ. midfielder Antonio Otero, who played the full 90 minutes against Bolton, injured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in training and will return to the U.S. immediately for treatment.
