[AMERICANS ABROAD] Bayern Munich has added Landon Donovan to its European Champions League roster while Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the club will decide in the next few weeks whether to pursue a long-term deal with the American.

Donovan, on loan to the German power from the Los Angeles Galaxy until mid-March, has already seen time off the bench for Bayern in a German Cup game and a Bundesliga match.

Bayern plays its first game of the Champions League knockout stage (round of 16) when it travels Sporting Lisbon Feb. 25.

“He’s an extra option, which is what Coach Juergen Klinsmann wanted,” Rummenigge said. “We’ll have to decide what to do in the next few weeks. We have some critical games approaching, and that’ll show whether he can help us. That’s the decisive factor.”
