The Houston Dynamo may have dropped two points against Toronto FC at Robertson Stadium on Sunday, but things still look pretty comfortable for the 2006 MLS champs, still first place in the West, three points ahead of FC Dallas. At the moment, no one can score on the Dynamo: Its 0-0 draw against TFC was its seventh shutout in row, topping an MLS record set by Kansas City in 2000, with 695 minutes without conceding a goal. After suffering a poor start to the season, the defending champs are also unbeaten in their last 10 games, the longest run in MLS this season. Unlike, say, the East, competition looks awfully thin at the top in the West. FCD is just three points behind Houston, but the Hoops have lacked the consistency to look like real challengers.

That said, the Dynamo’s players were less than impressed with Sunday’s performance; the players said the scoreless draw against 10-man TFC reminds them of the trouble they had scoring earlier in the season; the records were treated “like cheap consolation prizes in the Dynamo locker room,” the Houston Chronicle says.

“The scoreless streak for me is great, but we want to win games, you know?” Coach Dominic Kinnear said after the match. “It was frustrating; it was a game we wanted to win,” forward Nate Jaqua added. “We definitely could’ve put them away and won.” In spite of its frustration, the Dynamo will enter the All-Star break with the best record in the league.
