The pace was faster than MLS, and Maurice Edu tired in the second half, but he still enjoyed his debut for league-leading Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premier League Saturday, when his new side beat Kilmarnock 2-1.

“The play in Scotland is far quicker to what I am used to in MLS,” Edu said. “The guys are more technical and it is a real physical battle. MLS is getting better and better, but here we have seasoned veterans, guys who have played to a high level in other countries as well. I want to do well and be a better player.”

Edu said that playing alongside Portuguese midfielder Pedro Mendes will help that process. “I think Pedro is a great player and it was good to play alongside him in my first match. He made everything a lot easier for me. I think I can definitely learn a lot from him. His movement off the ball, his touch and his vision are all excellent.

Edu said he felt that he “grew in confidence as the game went on,” although he was replaced after 65 minutes, just after Rangers went 2-1 up.
