Idealistic UEFA President Michel Platini said Monday he will not challenge Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency, and that he expects Blatter to stay in the post for six more years following the next election in 2011, reports Yasir Abbasher.
Speaking at the Gulf Cup in Muscat, Platini said, “We have a good president at the moment who announced that he will run for another office, which means that whoever thinks of the presidency should wait for six more years.”
Asked if he was satisfied with the game, Platini replied, “Football is my passion. When I was 20 I was a player, at 35 I became a coach, and at 52 I find myself as the president of Uefa. I have a goal and that is to guard the game.” He added that the world financial crisis would not adversely affect football. “Football will be played whatever happens,” Platini said. “Football had been played in the past with small financial support and will continue forever.”
