In the light of reports that Manchester City has offered AC Milan $133 million for Brazilian playmaker Kaka, Kaveh Solhekol offers the EPL team some alternative ways to spend such a huge amount. City manager Mark Hughes also “needs a goalkeeper, some defenders, a couple of midfield players and a target man,” he says, before suggesting how Hughes could better spread the team owners’ wealth.
First, buy Cristiano Ronaldo, because “why have the second best player in the world when you can have the best?” Second, pick up Petr Cech, John Terry and Frank Lampard from Chelsea “and still have enough loose change in your back pocket to make Valencia an offer they could not refuse for David Villa.” Another possibility would be to offer Arsenal $73 million for Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona $29 million for Thierry Henry, with enough still left over to pay agent Pini Zahavi his $31 million in commission.
Alternatively, “why buy one player when you can buy a whole club? Get on the phone to Bjorgolfor Gudmundsson, buy West Ham United, close the club, sell Upton Park and bring all their players up to Manchester.” Finally, as the credit crunch is starting to bite and Manchester United is over $1 billion in debt, the available money could get you Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez, Paul Scholes, Nani and Anderson off the Old Trafford roster, “and they would probably throw in John O’Shea for free.”
