This weekend is full of standout clashes in Europe. In England, it’s Arsenal at home to Liverpool. This is an interesting because both teams badly need a win. Arsenal has looked inept in front of goal in its last three games in all competitions; the Gunners can’t afford to drop any more points if they want to keep pace with Manchester United and Chelsea. Liverpool, meanwhile, is in a good vein of form at the moment but has been terrible on the road. The Reds are still effectively making up for lost ground during last month’s slump. In Spain’s La Liga, all eyes will be on Barcelona-Real Zaragoza, the second- and third-place teams, respectively. Expect goals from the league’s top scoring teams, though Zaragoza will be far happier to settle for a tie than Barca, as the away team. These are very talented passing teams that feature a slew of South American stars, including Argentines Diego Milito and Pablo Aimar for Zaragoza and Leo Messi and Javier Saviola for Barca, Brazilians Ewerthon for Zaragoza, and of course, Ronaldinho, the Barca superstar. In Italy, this weekend’s clash of the titans sees Roma play host to struggling AC Milan. Roma will be keen to assert itself as one of the top contenders for this season’s Scudetto, while Milan desperately needs to pull it together after losing three of its last four games in Serie A. Roma is the favorite, however, as the Giallorossi sport the league’s best defensive record; Milan, on the other hand, has just 10 goals in 10 games.
