Cameroon defender Pierre Wome, who missed a stoppage time penalty kick against Eygpt on Saturday that cost the Indomitable Lions a World Cup spot, says he fears for the lives of his family. And he disputes teammate Samuel Eto'o's account of the penalty kick scenario.

Eto'o, the Spanish League's leading scorer with Barcelona, said he was prepared to take the spot kick but acquiesced to Wome after the Inter Milan defender assured him he would convert.

''I'm very angry with Eto'o because what he said isn't true,'' Wome told Reuters. ''We did not talk on the field but I took into account that he and the captain didn't feel up to it so I went to take it myself given that I was on the list of penalty takers.''

Wome said angry fans attacked cars they believed belonged to him and his family, which is now under police protection in Cameroon.
