FIFA can’t seem to decide what it wants to do about rotating the World Cup. At a press conference on Sunday, President Sepp Blatter said the process of rotating the tournament between continents could change after 2014, which has been delegated to South America. “The FIFA executive committee has decided that the process of the rotation will go to 2014,” Blatter said, adding that the executive committee would decide whether that process will continue when it meets in Durban, South Africa, before the 2010 qualifying draw, on Nov. 23, when the committee will also select the host of the 2014 tournament, which will most likely be Brazil.

If the committee decides to stick with the rotation system, North America would be next, as Asia, Europe, Africa and South America would have already held the tournament since the rotation system was implemented. If the committee scraps the system, it would be a blow to the United States, which has already announced its intention to host the 2018 tournament.
