Having been a tremendous flop during his three years with the RotMasters, it comes as no suprise to see Bob Bradley rewarded with another plum coaching job … that is the way it is with the MLS coaching clique … of course it smacks of jobs for the boys, a sort of nepotism, something that is never admirable … no matter, Bradley, hardly this country's biggest admirer of Hispanic soccer, will go to Chivas, a club that is rapidly abandoning its original intention to be a primarily Hispanic team … an obviously silly appointment, not one that can be taken seriously … but one that, for that very reason, could be successful … who ever said there was any logic to coaching or coaching apppointments? … Bradley did not have the best of luck during his years at the MetroStars, but at the end of his reign the Rots were every bit as pathetic as they were when he started … his biggest problem was that, like so many American coaches, he never was able to define a style of play … certainly not on the field, where performances were erratic, veering wildly from exciting (rarely) to hopeless (usually) … nor was it clear, from Bradley's increasingly vapid post-game remarks, what he was trying to get at … the situation, presumably, will be rather different at Chivas where the style of play is already set … Bradley will be expected to produce a team that is faithful to the Chivas style, a team that plays attacking, Mexican-style soccer … had I been in charge of Chivas, looking for a coach to do that, the non-Spanish-speaking Bob Bradley's name would have been the last one on my list … but in soccer, you never know … Buena suerte! Bob.
