Last week, Mexico's Guillermo Franco was all set to sign for Estudiantes de La Plata in Brazil. Not anymore. Multiple sources have reported that the Mexican striker, who professed his desire to remain in Europe, is on the verge of signing a contract with English Premier League club West Ham United.

Franco's contract with Villarreal ran out at the end of last season, and the club didn't opt to bring him back. Despite not belonging to a club, Franco made several appearances for Mexico this summer. He played in the Mexico squad that won the Concacaf Gold Cup. He also scored in Mexico's recent 3-0 win in Costa Rica for World Cup qualifying.

West Ham would be able to sign Franco on a free transfer, acquiring the striker despite the close of the transfer window because Franco is out of contract. Should the deal happen, Franco would become the third Mexican international in the English Premier League, joining Carlos Vela (Arsenal) and Giovani dos Santos (Tottenham).
