[WORLD CUP QUALIFYING] Frankie Hejduk, who has been limited to 12 MLS games this season and hasn’t played for the USA since April because of injury, has been added to the U.S. roster for its games against Honduras on Saturday and Costa Rica on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old right back, who helped the Columbus Crew win the 2008 MLS title, started the first three games of final round of qualifying.

He replaces attacker Clint Dempsey, who suffered a shoulder injury playing for Fulham last weekend.

Hejduk, who has 84 career caps and seven international goals, has appeared in 17 games in four World Cup qualifying campaigns. His last U.S. appearance was in a 3-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago April 1. On March 28 he set up a goal and scored in a 2-2 tie with El Salvador.
