The former goalkeeper of English Championship side Plymouth Argyle, Luke McCormick, was jailed for seven years Monday for killing two young brothers while driving drunk.
The 25-year-old was returning from a teammate’s wedding in the early hours of the morning last June with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood when he ploughed his Range Rover into the back of a minivan, killing Arron Peak, age 10, and his brother Ben, 8. The boys’ father was also seriously injured in the crash.
Eyewitnesses said McCormick was driving “like an idiot,” and estimated his speed at around 90mph. McCormick’s contract with Argyle was terminated by mutual consent a month after the crash. He had twice been voted the club’s Young Player of the Year.
