The USA has defeated Brazil 1-0 to advance to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Preki’s 64th minute goal proved to be the gamewinner, and goalkeeper Kasey Keller had one of his finest matches, making save after superb save to keep Brazil at bay. Brazil sent Bayern Munich forward Elber in as a substitute with 15 minutes remaining, and immediately turned up the pressure on the U.S. In the 81st minute, Romario appeared to have beaten Keller with a chip, but the ball bounced wide right. Five minutes later, Keller made a fantastic lunge to parry Elber’s 25-yard blast. As time ran down, the U.S. defenders played solidly, dispossessing Brazilian striker Edmundo on a pair of occasions, and Keller made a fine grab to save the ball from going over the endline for a Brazilian corner kick. The win is the first ever for the U.S. against Brazil. The USA has now won six straight matches (the longest streak in team history) and matched its longest unbeaten streak (nine games) as well. The Americans have shut out their opponent in five of their last seven games. The USA will face either Mexico or Jamaica in the final match on Feb. 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the Los Angeles Coliseum.
