The USA and Brazil are tied 0-0 at halftime of their semifinal match in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup. While the U.S. had a good amount of possession in the half, they never mounted a serious offensive threat. Brazil, through patient attacks and counters, had numerous scoring opportunities. Romario alone has taken five shots on goal, but has been denied by U.S. keeper Kasey Keller, who played a superb half. In the opening ten minutes, after a wild goalmouth scramble resulted in a pair of Brazilian shots that were blocked by U.S. defenders, a lunging Keller parried away Romario’s rebound effort. The Leicester City star also denied Romario twice on breakaways and made a spectacular diving save off of a header by the popular forward with just two minutes to play in the half. Brazilian defender Mauro Silva left the game early in the half after suffering a sprained ankle. He was replaced by Doriva.
