Preki Radosavljevic scored in the 64th minute to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead over Brazil in their Gold Cup Semifinal match. Brazil opened the half by controlling possession for the first five minutes, and Flavio Conceicao’s close range shot went just wide in the 49th minute. The U.S. then rallied and began to put pressure on the Brazilians, winning several corners and holding onto the ball. In the 64th minute, a long pass was sent down the left flank for Eric Wynalda, who then dropped the ball back to Preki near the top of the arc. Preki, who had come on as a sub for Roy Wegerle in the 60th minute, circled around to his left, beating Brazilian defender Junior, and curled a shot past Taffarel and into the back left netting from 20 yards out to put the U.S. ahead. It was the first goal the USA has scored against Brazil in 68 years. Cobi Jones was unlucky not to score minutes later, when he was freed down the left side and his hard, low shot was barely knocked away by Taffarel.
