He only just got there, but it didn’t take playmaker Amado Guevara long to become persona non grata at Chivas USA. “He’s not with the team,” Chivas USA Preki told MLSNet after training on Thursday. “I have a vision of where this club is going and he’s not part of it.” A deal to send the Honduran international to Toronto FC fell through, as did efforts to move him to other MLS teams. It’s a shame for Chivas, not because Guevara has performed so well — rather, the L.A. club traded away its designated player slot plus a third-round draft pick in exchange for the Honduran international. (It was former Chivas coach, Bob Bradley, who was hurriedly thrust into the position of interim U.S. national team coach in December, orchestrated the trade, not Preki, who officially took over the team on Jan. 20.)

“I didn’t know him before I came here that well,” the former MLS great said. “I gave him two or three months to see how things work. If I don’t see things aren’t going to work out, I might as well do it right away instead of waiting down the line and then that becomes an issue when we’re facing the crucial part of the year.”

Preki was quick to point out that Guevara is a good player, but “his everyday habits” irked him. In particular he said that Amado is the kind of player that needs coaching on a daily basis. Guevara was reportedly headed back to Honduras if MLS can work out an agreement with an unnamed club.
