[EPL AMERICANS] There was a bright spot for American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann to Reading’s 2-0 loss to Portsmouth on New Year’s Day.
Hahnemann, whose blunder cost the Royals the first goal, received an automatic one-year contract extension with Reading as a result of playing in the game.
The extension was triggered by a clause in his contract stipulating there would be an extension as soon as he reached 20 English Premier League games this season.
Hahnemann has been Reading’s No. 1 goalkeeper for six seasons — including the Royals’ two seasons in the EPL. He came to England to play for Fulham in 1999. He began his career in the A-League with the Seattle Sounders and was a member of the Colorado Rapids’ 1997 MLS runner-up team.
