Everton is interested in Villareal’s U.S. striker Jozy Altidore, according to Sky Sports, quoting no sources. It does not state whether the English Premier League side, which has an injury crisis among its forwards, is interested in purchasing Altidore or taking him on loan.
Either way, the site says that the Spanish team has “shunned Everton’s initial approach as they want Altidore to settle further in Spain rather than try his hand in the Premier League.” However, the January transfer window is still young.
Everton, which has been playing midfielder Tim Cahill as an emergency striker, is also targeting Venezuelan international Giancarlo Maldonado, who plays with Mexican side with Atlante. Atlante president Jose Antonio Garcia said: “We want him to stay. He has a year and a half of his contract remaining but he is asking to leave. They want to take him on loan with an option to buy at the end of the deal. He told us he wants to play in England as these opportunities are very rare.”
